Why is today just another day?

We go through life thinking that we will always have tomorrow but that is not true. We are not guaranteed the light of the next day. James tells us that our lives are but a vapor and that it disappears as smoke in the wind. So why do take for granted the time that we have. The only real answer that we have to that question is because we don’t truly appreciate the time that we have.

We think we’ll wake up the next day without a worry in the world but we are wrong in that assumption. Because we are not promised tomorrow we should live each day as if it is our last. That is not to say to go out and party till we drop but instead to serve our God to the best of our abilities. God has given us an opportunity that we should jump at because it is the best opportunity the world has ever seen. We as humans are born with a rebellious nature and want to serve our selves.

Unfortunately that rebellious nature ultimately leads to death, a death that is eternal and never ending. God, fortunately, has given us a way to escape that death and live a life worth more than the dirt from which we were made. We have been given a chance to truly live but we pass it by as though it were nothing. When I pass I want people to look at the life I lived and say that I made an impact in the lives of those that were around me. Yet there is more to it than that, because I don’t want them to look at the negative impacts but instead to say that I made a positive change in people’s lives.

Is that what you are wanting? Do you want people to remember you for the good things in life or are you living your life so they remember the negative things? Ask yourself that question because that is a decision that needs to be made today. If you wait till tomorrow then that chance may have passed you by. It’d be no different if someone offered you a million dollars today but you said no then tomorrow you went to them saying you were wrong and you’d accept it but instead they’ve already given it away.

Are you sure you want to pass that kind of opportunity up? If you answer yes, then when you leave today I’ll feel sorry for you because that is one of the biggest mistakes you’ll ever make. What is even more insane is the possibility that people will pass up the opportunity to have true happiness. So do you want the gift of eternal life or do you want to suffer for all eternity in a place where there is no happiness or comfort. All you will have there is eternal pain and torment, but if you come to know Christ and accept Him as your savior then joy is what you will receive.

So why are we living each day as if it is nothing? For those that already know Christ why are you just sitting around the house expecting other people to do the dirty work for you instead of you getting out and getting your hands dirty? And for those of you who do not know who Christ are, why are you letting the offer pass you by because you tonight you may pass in your sleep and you’ll spend forever in agonizing pain. My prayer is that everyone will come to know who Christ is and that everyone will decide to live their lives as if it is their last. That way when they leave this world behind we do not cry in sorrow because they’re gone but instead because a great servant of God has left us.

Nor do I want us to cry because we do not know their fate but instead because we know that they are in a place where there is no pain and no suffering. I do not want to cry and be sorrowful for anyone. I want to take joy in knowing that they lived their lives in such a way that everyone will be proud of them and when they get to heaven and God looks down upon them He says well done my good and faithful servant. So I ask you again, why is today just another day in your life?
